STMicroelectronics’ L99MH98 8-channel gate driver introduces a groundbreaking solution to
enhance the efficiency of automotive motor drives. By optimizing material usage and
minimizing power losses, this device supports a variety of automotive systems, including
seatbelt pretensioners, pumps, sunroofs, window controls, and seat adjusters.
Equipped with a built-in charge pump, the L99MH98 effectively manages reverse-battery
protection MOSFETs and controls resistive loads such as heaters. With a gate current
capacity reaching up to 120mA, it operates with both logic- and standard-level MOSFETs. Its
advanced three-stage gate control significantly reduces electromagnetic emissions, improving
overall system performance.
The device indirectly measures MOSFET drain currents, enabling predictive functions based
on resistance-versus-temperature behavior. Additionally, it features a programmable
multi-failsafe mechanism, ensuring individual bridges shut down during faults while
unaffected bridges remain operational.
Qualified under AEC Q100 and compliant with ISO 26262 standards for safety applications
up to ASIL B, the L99MH98 is designed for robust performance in automotive environments.
Packaged in a VFQFN48L, it is priced at $2.44 per unit for orders of 1,000 or more.
