Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently on a two-day visit to New Delhi, has
advocated for dialogue as a means to address the challenges faced by both nations in their
economic development cooperation efforts.
“By sharing our experiences and the difficulties we encounter in our economic development,
we can resolve these issues through dialogue,” she stated during a meeting with Indian
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Over the past decade, bilateral relations have significantly improved, reaching a point where
they can now be elevated to a new level, particularly in trade, Jaishankar said, according to
M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Principal Secretary to Hasina.
India is keen to enhance its cooperation with Bangladesh in the areas of logistics, energy, and
connectivity, Miah added. Jaishankar also encouraged Hasina to take on a new role within the
Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation
(BIMSTEC) and expressed hope for her attendance at the upcoming BIMSTEC summit in
Thailand this September.
Both leaders agreed that strengthening BIMSTEC would be advantageous for Bangladesh,
especially in terms of trade, connectivity, and digitalization, as reported by a Bangladeshi
news agency.
